Being involved in the running of a University Canoe Club can be a demanding business with many factors to consider and be aware of. The BCU Student Safety Seminar aims to make your life easier.

Based at Plas-Y-Brenin, the National Mountain Centre in North Wales every October, this weekend seminar is the perfect place for those involved or destined to be involved with the running of the club to pick up ideas, tips and advice.

The Seminar has a half day discussion session, followed by a choice of afternoon on the water workshops, then a second day of on the water sessions. The seminar delves into subjects like Risk and Responsibility, Introducing Beginners, Transport, the Law, amongst others and the on the water workshops include FSRT, star tests, rescue, skills coaching, runnng river trips and more.

The Saturday night also boasts an absolutely cracking lecture on adventure kayaking (past speakers include Dave and Graham Fairweater, the Four Borders Expedition team and Nick Horwood) and a spirited attempt to drink the bar dry of everything except Advocaat.

The seminar is aimed at everyone who can paddle a boat, with something for all. There is no limit on the number of places per university (within reason).
